Week 2

Watercolors & sharpie art idea
Example of Sharpie Art mixed with Water Colors
                                               Found on insightsandbellylaughs.com

This week we began the hour by showing the drawings that we worked on during the week.  Nice job!

Next we talked further about the fundamental building blocks of art.  We added two more fundamentals to our list.

1.  The art element shape.

  • Here is a nice simple Video for drawing with shapes.
  • Here is another Sharron Jeffus video on drawing pumpkins with shape.  Link

2.  The art principle Emphasis.

  • Here is a short video demonstrating emphasis.  Link
Then we went a step further and talked about the rule of thirds.

  • Here is a link to a video that does a nice job showing how much of a difference the rule of thirds makes in an artists composition.  Rule of Thirds.
  • Here is another video on composition.

Next we moved on to our main project, designing coasters.  They will go great with the mugs that we will design next week.

Mission #2
Your 2nd mission, should you choose to accept it, is to practice drawings for the mug  project we will complete next week.  You may draw whatever you like on your mugs, but again this week we will be practicing a different type of drawing that will help you overall in your drawing skills.   Enjoy the process.  Remember practice makes better.  Don't forget to bring your practice drawings to show the class and add to your portfolio.

(Note:  We will be drawing with regular sharpies on the mugs because the cost of oil based sharpies are prohibitive.  The mugs will be baked to help your drawings last longer, but they will eventually wash off.  If you would like a more permanent solution you are welcome to bring your own oil based marker for a more permanent drawing.  Walmart carries paint markers for around $2 each.)

This week we will be be exploring and practicing the art form of lettering.

1. Lettering Part 1

2. Lettering Part 2

Just for fun.
